Session Description:

The aim of this session is to address the key challenges currently facing the tourism sector in the context of dynamic social, economic, and technological change. We seek contributions on a wide range of issues, including evolving tourist preferences, digital transformation of services, demographic shifts, and the pursuit of sustainable development. The session will serve as a platform for presenting research, case studies, and practical solutions that can help the tourism industry grow in line with consumer expectations and broader economic needs.

Proposed Thematic Areas:

  1. Emerging tourism trends: changing travel styles, local and domestic tourism, city-breaks, senior tourism.

  2. Innovation and digitalization in tourism – e-commerce, digital platforms, AI, data-driven decision-making.

  3. Tourism and demographic change – ageing societies, Generations Y and Z as consumers of tourism services.

  4. Sustainable tourism – balancing economic benefits, environmental protection, and community well-being.

  5. Partnerships between academia, business, and policy-makers in shaping regional tourism attractiveness.

Introduction to the Session:

Tourism is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the global economy, yet it is also highly vulnerable to global shocks and rapid social transformations. The pandemic, accelerated digitalization, shifting consumer demands, and demographic challenges are just some of the forces reshaping the industry today. This session invites scholars and practitioners to share perspectives on the competencies, innovations, and business models that will define the future of tourism.
